Application of vertical electricalsounding (VES) and Electromagnetic (EM) methods to study shallow geological structures for inspection of gas pipeline foundation
Abstract
Previously, the expensive and difficult drilling method was often used to survey the foundation of shallow geological structures. Nowadays, new geophysical methods (such as seismic, vertical electrical sounding (VES), electromagnetic (EM), etc.) are widely applied in engineering geological survey work because of their reasonable cost and high accuracy.
Survey results of foundation and pipeline stability inspection showed that the system of direct current VES and EM methods could handle well the studies of shallow geological structure and the monitoring of gas pipelines.
