35 years of establishment and development of Vietsovpetro’s oil and gas production technology
Abstract
After 35 years of establishment, Vietsovpetro has overcome many difficulties and challenges to become the pioneer in petroleum production in Vietnam. With its excellent technical staff, specialists with high scientific level, and adequate infrastructure, Vietsovpetro has effectively and sustainably exploited oil and gas fields in the southern continental shelf of Vietnam, such as Bach Ho, Rong, Gau Trang, and Tho Trang, etc. Depending on the stage of production, Vietsovpetro has implemented several research projects and testing to optimise and choose the best technology for production, corresponding to two particular characteristics of oil in Vietsovpetro’s fields (oil in basement and oil with high paraffin content, high viscosity and high pour point temperature).
In this paper, the authors summarise the lessons learned in the research as well as the selection and development of technological solutions for Vietsovpetro’s offshore oil and gas production. These results can also be applied to other blocks in the southern continental shelf of Vietnam, thus contributing to the development of Vietsovpetro in particular and the oil and gas industry of Vietnam in general.
