General development plan for potential oil and gas discoveries in Cuu Long basin
Abstract
Cuu Long is the basin which has the longest history of offshore petroleum exploration and production in Vietnam to date. Alongside developed fields, there are many oil and gas discoveries in the basin which have not been developed. Thus, there is an urgent need to establish an appropriate general development plan for these discoveries. The authors carried out hydrocarbon initial in-place and reserve assessment and examined different development options for these undeveloped oil and gas potentials. The study shows that many undeveloped oil and gas discoveries can tie in to the existing production facilities in Cuu Long basin to maximise the use of these existing infrastructures. Other fields can be developed in stand-alone concept. The authors also made specific recommendations on development schedule for these discoveries, the priority to explore potential prospect and on adjustment of terms and conditions of petroleum sharing contract for small and marginal oil and gas fields.
