Preparation of heterogeneous catalyst Na2CO3/SiO2 used for synthesis of biodiesel
Abstract
Compared to the homogeneous catalysts, heterogeneous catalysts have the following advantages: high activity and stability, easily reusable, and no corrosion of equipment. The use of heterogeneous catalysts does not lead to the formation of soap through neutralisation of FFAs or saponification of triglycerides, making the separation process easier and increasing the economic effi ciency of the biodiesel production process. In this paper, the authors introduced the heterogeneous cylindrical-pellet catalyst Na2CO3/SiO2, which was prepared for the process of biodiesel synthesis from waste cooling oil in a pilot-scale continuous-flow fixed reactor. The prepared heterogeneous catalyst Na2CO3/SiO2 meets the requirements for catalyst used in biodiesel production, with a biodiesel yield of 93.6%. The biodiesel product also meets most of the qualitative standards for B100 in the Vietnamese standard TCVN 7717:2007.
