Preparation and characterisation of La, Zn/ZrO2-Al2O3-SO4 2- solid acid catalyst for transesterification of Jatropha oil for biodiesel production
Abstract
In this research, we have successfully established a synthesis procedure for La, Zn/ZrO2-Al2O3-SO4 2- multicomponent catalyst with the capacity of 0.5 kg/batch. The catalyst structure is characterised by advanced physical and physiochemical methods, including XRD, TPD-NH3, TPD-CO2, and N2 adsorption - desorption. The presence of Al, Zr, and S creates acidic sites while that of K and Mg creates basic sites corresponding to the desorption of NH3 at 513oC and CO2 at 490oC. This is a clear evidence of successful preparation of acid-base catalyst. On the other hand, a batch biodiesel production process with the capacity of 0.5 l of Jatropha oil/batch has been built. The biodiesel product was shown to satisfy 10/11 specifi cations of B100 according to the TCVN 7717-2007 standard (The antioxidant additives should be applied to meet the requirement for oxidation stability).
