Simulation of dual gradient drilling at deepwater well, Nam Con Son basin
Abstract
Recently, prospects for new oil and gas in Vietnam have mainly been discovered in areas with complex geological conditions and potential risks (e.g. areas in deep water or with abnormal pressure and temperature), making it difficult or even impossible to apply the conventional drilling method.
A new technological solution has been researched and developed to solve this problem, namely dual gradient drilling (DGD), one of the four methods of managed pressure drilling (MPD). The paper presents the simulation results of dual gradient drilling method performed at a deepwater well in the Nam Con Son basin. The simulation of precise pressure control in dual gradient drilling technology will improve the efficiency of drilling operations and prevent complexities and problems during the drilling process.
